Four Principles Accelerate Fat Loss

Glucagon – secreted in response to high protein foods and low blood sugar – increases the shuttling of fats into the mitochondria so that they may be burned for energy. The thyroid gland is the primary regulator of BMR and accomplishes step 4 by secreting hormones that increase the metabolic rate of every cell in the body. An underactive thyroid gland almost always leads to weight gain. So, how does the fat loss seeker consolidate all of these factors involved in fat tissue regulation and create a plan that maximizes fat burning?

Fire and emergency responders, working with the Virginia Hospital Center, will stage a simulated fire and evacuation at an isolated wing of the hospital, 1701 N George Mason Dr., from 6 a.m. to noon. Mondays photos of the day Whenever you get the opportunity to train fire and police and the Office of Emergency Management, it just makes perfectly good sense, said John Crawford, a spokesman for OEM. The fire department has been putting out fires for a very long time, and they know how to do it, but in this case we will be working with hospital staff in the removal and evacuation of patients… This is something we dont generally practice. The exercise will not affect normal hospital operations, officials said.

Rockies exercise 2014 option for lefty Jorge De La Rosa

Jorge De La Rosa will be back with the Rockies for at least one more season.

He will earn $11 million next season and become a free agent next winter. De La Rosa, 32, went 16-6 with a 3.49 ERA (127 ERA+) and 1.38 WHIP in 167 2/3 innings across 30 starts in 2013. He managed to allow only 11 home runs despite pitching half his games in Coors Field. That’s rather impressive.

Snoring Gateway To Heart Risks?

Snoring gateway to heart risks? Wednesday 02nd, October 2013 / 00:46 in Health Snoring may be a gateway to higher risk of heart disease than those who are overweight, smoke or have high cholesterol, according to a new finding. Snoring is tied to increased thickening of the lining of the two large blood vessels that supply the brain with oxygenated blood. It is a precursor to hardening of the arteries responsible for many vascular and heart diseases. Snoring is more than a bedtime annoyance and it shouldnt be ignored.

Snoring: A New Tip-Off To Stroke and Heart Disease

We have 2,000 to 3,000 patients we see a year just sleep-related problems between three physicians. About 30 patients per month come through the sleep clinic, Bader said. Dentists can help, too But those with mild or moderate sleep apnea could turn to dentists for ways to address their snoring issues. Thats what Ann Barker, 38, of Sturtevant, did. A patient of dentist Keith Stummers for about eight years, Barker said dental staff brought up the issue of snoring when she went in for a regular cleaning several months ago. They handed her a survey to fill out. Basically, the survey revealed I have some excessive sleepiness, and tiredness, she said.

Snoring: When is it cause for concern?

A Dog Days Inn

It could be that thickening of the arteries is contributing to the snoring as well, not just the other way around. One more thing to pay attention to: The patients in the Henry Ford study were all between the ages of 18 and 50. Deeb, the studys lead author, hopes his research will lead people to treat snoring as a reason to visit the doctor and discuss cardiovascular health and stroke prevention. And he hopes doctors will now add snoring to the list of risk factors which currently includes high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and family history they use to initiate testing and treatment. Our study adds to the growing body of evidence suggesting that isolated snoring may not be as benign as first suspected, Deeb said in a statement. Patients need to seek treatment in the same way they would if they had sleep apnea, high blood pressure or other risk factors for cardiovascular disease. While obstructive sleep apnea (which often develops from snoring) has long been known as an indicator of cardiovascular disease, theres been little evidence up to now to show the damage starts earlier with snoring.

Mental Health First Aid

A professor, Tony Jorm, and nurse, Betty Kitchener, created it in affiliation with the University of Melbourne. Studies soon documented its effectiveness in saving lives and improving the mental health of the layperson giving the care and guidance. According to MHFA program material, just as CPR training helps a layperson without medical training assist an individual following a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid training helps a layperson assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis. So successful was this Australian pilot program that other countries followed suit, including the U.S. in 2008, and communities are now offering the training course. Hospital, nursing home and school personnel initially took part.

California’s new mental health system helps people live independently

“We found that these programs promoted independent living in the community among people who had serious mental illness but had not been served or underserved previously,” said Jangho Yoon, an assistant professor of health policy and health economist in OSU’s College of Public Health and Human Sciences and lead author of the study. “Overall, it reduced their chance of living on the street or being incarcerated in jails and prisons.” The researchers looked at data from 43 of California’s 53 counties, resulting in a sample of 9,208 adults over the course of four years. They found that participants who stayed enrolled in the program continuously, without interruption, were 13.5 percent more likely to successfully transition to independent living. However, they found that non-white patients were less likely to live independently, and more likely to end up in jail or homeless. “Although FSPs represent the most well-funded comprehensive community-based programs in the country, they are still community programs and therefore program participation is voluntary,” Yoon said. “My guess is that minorities may not benefit fully from these programs in their communities possibly due to greater stigma, and less family/social supports.
